More than 300 people riot outside a donut shop in John Eliot Square following news of the assassination of Malcolm X.

February 21, 1965

Malcolm X was shot and killed in the Audubon Ballroom in the Washington Heights neighborhood in Manhattan. His death sparks riots in a number of cities, including Boston, where nine persons, including four juveniles and five teenage girls, are arrested. Three followers of the Nation of Islam are subsequently are imprisoned for the murder, but the convictions of two are later dismissed.
